Beyond the clinic

Back home in Courtenay BC

Dr. Z grew up in Courtenay BC. After years of training and competing at a high level, he's back in the community he considers home — and that connection matters to how he practices.

He competed in Ironman Canada and placed well, then went on to represent Canada as a member of the National Team in triathlon. He understands what it means to push your body, to manage injuries, and to want to stay active. That perspective shapes how he treats patients who are athletes, weekend hikers, or anyone who just wants to keep moving without pain.

These days he hikes regularly and is learning to kiteboard — a new challenge he approaches with the same focus he brings to everything else.

How Dr. Z works

Approach to patient care

Patients consistently describe Dr. Z as thorough, direct, and easy to talk to. Here's what that looks like in practice.

He listens first

Most foot problems have context — how you move, what you do, how long it's been going on. Dr. Z takes the time to understand the full picture before recommending anything.

He explains clearly

You'll leave understanding what's happening with your foot, why, and what the options are. No jargon, no vague reassurances.

He focuses on the source

Treating symptoms is easy. Solving the underlying problem takes more work — and that's where Dr. Z puts his energy.

He thinks long-term

The goal isn't just to get you through the appointment. It's to make sure you're not back with the same problem in six months.
