Custom Orthotics Courtenay BC
For Plantar Fasciitis & Foot Pain
Thin, precisely crafted carbon fiber orthotics — designed by a podiatrist who understands what is actually causing your pain. Dr. Z uses a 3D laser scanner to capture your foot in its corrected position. No plaster molds, no guesswork.
Typically ready in 6 business days. Insurance paperwork handled.
What orthotics can help with
Foot pain can affect how you walk, stand, and move. Orthotics address the mechanics behind the pain — not just the symptoms.
Not every condition is treated by orthotics, and results cannot be guaranteed. Dr. Z will not make orthotics unless they are very likely to be the right choice for you.
Why choose Dr. Z
Doctor-Prescribed Orthotics — Made Right Here in Courtenay
Expert Diagnosis
Podiatrists are doctors who can both diagnose and treat foot and ankle conditions. You get a full evaluation and orthotics designed to address the root cause — not just the symptoms.
Advanced Technology
Dr. Z uses a 3D laser scanner to capture your foot in its corrected position. No plaster molds — just a clean, precise scan right here in the clinic.
Personalized for You
Choose from leather or microsuede, cushioned or ultra-thin, full-length or heel support. Every pair is built around your foot structure, gait, and activity level.
Cost-Effective, Long-Lasting
Well-made orthotics hold their shape for years. Dr. Z's orthotics can often be refurbished rather than replaced, potentially lasting a decade or more.
Sports Medicine Examination
Before making orthotics, Dr. Z performs a thorough biomechanical and sports medicine examination. This assessment covers your foot structure, gait, and activity level — the information needed to design orthotics that actually work for how you move.
You can choose from leather or microsuede top covers, cushioned or ultra-thin profiles, and full-length or heel-only styles. Whether you need something that fits inside a dress shoe or a trail runner, the orthotic is built around your footwear and your life.
Common questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the advantages of custom orthotics?
Custom orthotics provide support, correction, and cushioning tailored to your specific foot structure, gait, and activity level. Over-the-counter inserts are generic — custom orthotics address what is actually causing your pain.
How are your orthotics different from those made by pedorthists?
Podiatrists are doctors who can both diagnose and treat foot and ankle conditions. This means you get a comprehensive evaluation and orthotics designed to address the root cause of your problem. Dr. Z also has advanced training in biomechanics, surgery, and sports medicine.
Are orthotics covered by insurance?
Dr. Z will prepare all the necessary paperwork to maximize your coverage. Check with your plan before the visit. Typically around 80% is covered, with replacements eligible every one to two years. Patients on Provincial disability or First Nations coverage can be billed directly.
How much do custom orthotics cost?
The cost is $810, which includes the orthotics and two follow-up visits for modifications. Documentation for insurance reimbursement is provided.
How long does it take to get my orthotics?
Typically 6 business days. If you need them sooner, let us know and we will do our best.
What if I need more than orthotics?
If a more complex issue is found during your appointment — such as a tendon tear, broken bone, or diabetic ulceration — you will be refunded the orthotics fee and scheduled for a full consultation as soon as possible.
Should I try over-the-counter orthotics first?
For some people, a quality sports orthotic like Green Superfeet is a reasonable starting point and can be found at local sports stores. For complex or persistent problems, custom orthotics offer a more targeted and lasting solution.
Please provide at least 48 hours cancellation notice. Due to wait list demand and no-shows, the full visit fee is charged for missed appointments.
